Making a Short Movie

The first few weeks of school were, for the most part, a little boring. We have multiple subjects, such as A/V (Audio/Video), Computer Tech, Electrics and your standard language classes which are Dutch and English. The only thing really interesting in those first few weeks were the A/V classes since that’s where we learned all about camera’s and stuff. Language classes are boring by default (English is okay, we have a cool teacher) and our electrics teacher is just an idiot who doesn’t know a thing about teaching.

All that turned around last week when we recieved our first serious assignment during A/V. In a group of four we need to think up, write out and produce a two minute short film. Since we could chose what the film was about me and my group decided to use the theme of school shootings.

Our main character is being bullied by classmates and decides one day to sort out his problems with force. Our film will depict him walking to his classroom while flashback shows what has happened in the past. When he enters the classroom he reaches in his jacket, supposedly reaching for a gun.

Coming up with the story was quite a task to begin with. The very first version of the story was completely different and featured a crazy guy stalking a girl he fell in love with. However we decided to go with something else because the story was too complicated to pull off in the timeframe we had for the project. Also, in the original version of the final story, we had plans for using a gun replica but we had to take that out as well because of school regulations. Afterall we wouldn’t want some dude who does carry a real gun to go haywire when he sees our replica. So instead we decided to just make the suggestion that he reached for a gun, since the rest of the film could suggest what he’s going to do.

We should be starting the production of our short film somewhere next week and of course I will keep you updated. Obviously I’ll show the final product here once it’s done.
